It started with a heart
When you decide to have a family, create a business or go it alone you are never fully aware of how much you will need your family and friends. At the very heart of Mini Wallers there are two families, a few grandparents, a handful of aunties and uncles, two husbands, 5 kids and a whole lot of noise. We are very fortunate that when times have been a little tough, and even when they have not, we have been able to call on our families for that little bit of extra support – the saying ‘it takes a village’ is definitely not lost on us!
Between Katie and I this support has been tested a few times with the usual, my child is not sleeping what can I do? My husband is worse than the kids, can I come and live with you? What time is too early to crack open a Gin? But, when Katie’s daughter Little Miss N was born this support and team work took on a different meaning. Little Miss N, now a bouncy, stubborn and totally individual diva was born with a condition called Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrome, this means that her little body at times is not able to regulate her heart beat. At just 2 days old she was taken back into hospital which is where she received a bit of time ‘sunbathing’ (told you - massive diva!) and her diagnosis. In this time her mum, the arty director lady of Mini Wallers, watched, cuddled, fed and got to know her little girl. From the outside me, the wordy director lady of Mini Wallers, brought breakfasts, coffees and as many cuddles as I could (for both mum, dad and little miss n).
Together, we hatched a plan to create a limited edition screen print to sell, with all proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation and so in turn raising awareness of all matters of the heart. This is where and when it started – it started with a heart, A Heart of Gold Print, 50 to be exact all hand printed, signed and sold on behalf of little miss n and her family. This was the beginning of our screen printing journey, an adventure into the unknown realms of not only screen printing, but motherhood and heart conditions too.
Little miss n is now nearly four and with the motherhood adventure surprising both of us every day – two more have joined the gang since little miss n – we felt it was about time we got back to the screen printing, well that and the need to escape our kids every once in a while. We have created a collection of screen prints that we really hope you will like, they harness the power of the collective and celebrate all that is great in the groups, gangs, clubs, gatherings, posse’s and families that make the journey a little bit easier!
Trust me, there’s safety in numbers!!
Launching our new screen print collection very soon.... watch this space!
